  • OLD BUSINESS:

Murray will be meeting with Michael Toon, Editor and Publisher of the Carlisle Weekly to discuss how best to publicize the Society and our extensive resources.  Michael indicated earlier that he would do whatever he could to help us.

Alternating Meeting Sites:  This was discussed again and a motion was made and seconded to hold the May 26 meeting in Bardwell, at the Carlisle County Museum & Library on Front Street (which is one block west of US 51), at 6:00 P.M.  This will be publicized in the local papers as well as announced in transmissions of these minutes.

THE 26 MAY MEETING OF THE BCHGS WILL BE HELD IN BARDWELL AT THE CARLISLE COUNTY MUSEUM AND LIBRARY ON FRONT STREET AT 6:00 PM

                        Publicity Campaign:

Phyllis Hester is handling effort to get our Meeting dates/time/location into the local papers.

The Ballard Chamber of Commerce advised Phyllis that they were having web site problems, but BCHGS schedule will be included once “regular programming” resumes.

We want to solicit donation of Church and School yearbooks, rosters, or histories.  We do have quite few School Church rosters and histories from Ballard, but little Church and NO – not ANY School material from Carlisle!  Come on, Carlisle, donate those books you haven’t looked at in years, to your Society, where many folks will have the opportunity to visit the “old days”!

We should re-start “Footsteps in Time”.  For those who don’t know, “Footsteps” is an occasional article of genealogical or historical interest -  could be family or personal remembrances, local history items, anything relating to Ballard/Carlisle that a member (or non-member, for that matter) might wish to contribute.  Murray will discuss with Michael Toon.

Index to Ran Graves “History & Memories of Carlisle County:  Margaret will research to determine who has purchased this book and will advise these folks of the availability of our new index.

  • NEW BUSINESS

ROOTS DIGGER INDEX/TABLE OF CONTENTS:  covering the years 2005-2009, is now available for $10.00, plus $3.00 shipping & handling.  KY residents, include $.60 sales tax.  Order through Margaret Dunn.

  • ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Newt’s Playing Cards:  which proposes sets of playing cards with photos, pictures, etc. on the back.  Nice idea, but not for us.  They, themselves say, “for cities of 1,000 or more”.  No interest

National Book Auctions:  offer to auction excess/surplus books, or, especially, collections.  No interest.

We’ve received a “Thank You” card from Pat Harp for the dedication of a book to her mother, long-time member, Lucille Harp.  Pat, thank you, and we all have memories of the gracious Lucille.

  • ROOTS DIGGER:  Phyllis Hester:  Fall edition is in the works.  As always, out-of-town members are encouraged to participate in the Roots Digger.  Send information to Phyllis okcphyl@cox.net or BCHGS , P.O.Box 279, Wickliffe, KY 42087.
